It's been quite some time since I last spoke with you:) I am now officially a college graduate!
In May of 2015 I graduated from Elon University with a Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Communications and History. Since then, I have moved back to DC (my hometown) and have been working at an AWESOME missions-driver Public Relations firm in downtown DC. I am also studying to obtain my Master of Divinity Degree at Howard University.
My organization, ScholarCHIPS, is doing very well. We now have 23 scholars and are preparing for our annual College Life Skills Workshop :) I may very soon be able to transition into the full-time executive director! It's so awesome to be able to use my past experiences, to help inspire, motivate and/or encourage youth to follow their dreams, graduate college and break cycles of poverty and intergenerational incarceration.
As for modeling, I am still trying to secure agency representation. I have still been doing quarterly test shoots-finally got some comp cards and even mailed them out to several agencies. Modeling (print, e-commerce, fit) can be a lucrative career and provides the opportunity to travel aside from other things. I think I'd have better luck with a personal agent or manager-but if it's in God's will or permissive will all in his time.
Honestly, I just want to get to a position within the next 10 years where I can retire my grandmother, be prepared to take care of family and contribute financially to my community :)
I see a number of my peers getting engaged and married and I find myself many days longing to be united with a special person to share my ups and downs with-to do life with, but again I know it's all in God's time. I am not and I will not complain-I am truly blessed. I had full scholarship to cover my undergraduate education as well as a full scholarship to cover my graduate education, I have a job I love, an organization I love to dedicate my time and energy to, etc. All I have to do is stay focused.
I'm excited to see what the future brings. Patience truly is a virtue and truly does involve longsuffering, but I'm optimistic that it will it all will be well worth the wait.
Love Always, Yazzie
